New USC coach Steve Sarkisian has earned an early win. [Sarkisian] picked up his first two verbal commitments Wednesday night, when Mater Dei High cornerback Jonathan Lockett and junior-college defensive lineman Claude Pelon pledged to play for the Trojans. Lockett, a four-star recruit listed at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, previously committed to Sarkisian at Washington, but Sarkisian left last week to take the USC job. Pelon, a 6-5, 275-pound tackle from Mesa (Ariz.) Junior College, has two years of eligibility remaining. USC can sign 19 high school players in this recruiting cycle. … USC has also received commitments from offensive linemen Jordan Austin, Toa Lobendahn, Jordan Poland and Viane Talamaivao, receiver Shay Fields, athlete Ajene Harris, defensive linemen Malik Dorton, Austin Maloata and Olajuwon Tucker and linebacker Uchenna Nwosu.
